History

An internationally recognized and reliable manufacturer of wooden and plywood transport and storage packaging, as well as a provider of packaging services.
Since 1969.

The history of Savopak

Savopak’s story begins in 1969, when Artturi Määttä and Aarne Tamminen acquired the packaging production operations of A. Ahlström Oy and founded a new company based on that business. Operations started with plywood and wooden packaging for industrial needs in Finland and abroad. Early products included plywood tubs for fish, meat, and berries, which were coated with paraffin before freezing technology became widespread.

1970

During the 1970s, Savopak grew into an export company. Products were delivered to Sweden, special equipment was developed for the Finnish Defence Forces, and cooperation with BAT brought bins for cut rag tobacco made from Finnish birch plywood to Switzerland. In the 1980s, Savopak became part of Olavi Räsänen Oy and expanded its operations into solutions for the food industry. In the 1990s, changes in materials and industrial growth after the recession created demand for lightweight and foldable plywood crates.

2000

In the 2000s, exports expanded into Central Europe and quality requirements became stricter. Savopak developed its production to meet European standards and, in the 2010s, established itself as a partner in the defense and special industries, where precisely designed, customized packaging is required.

2024

In 2024, Savopak entered a new phase when Earthpac Oy acquired the entire share capital of the company. Operations continue in Varkaus, Rantasalmi, and Mikkeli. The company is still guided by the same principles as in the beginning: wood and plywood as core materials, practical design, and meeting customer needs.
